Puzzle & Dragons
Puzzle and Dragons blend RPG mechanics with tile-matching gameplay excellently. This is a game that’ll require some strategy and critical thinking on the player’s part. It’s on par with Fire Emblem Heroes with its challenges and level progression. In this game, you’ll tame multiple beasts from different walks of life. As you match tiles flawlessly. your monsters will perform invigorating attacks that will shake you to your core. There is a chaining system in Puzzles and Dragons that allows you to dish out incredible damage with your beasts single-handedly or as a team. This game has over 2,000 collectibles for you to seek out and obtain. Like Fire Emblem Heroes, your characters can evolve into formidable beings. Furthermore, the game offers the same dungeon-based exploration as Fire Emblem. Unfortunately, this game contains some in-game purchases. While buying products in the game can make your life easier, Puzzles & Dragons don’t force you into it. This is a free-to-play mobile title done right. Although it doesn’t offer much challenge, it’s worth your time.
The Banner Saga
The Banner Saga isn’t a free-to-play mobile game, but that shouldn’t jeopardize your need to play it. This game offers some interesting value to the RPG genre with its turn-based and strategic gameplay. This game provides you with a journey that’s dependent on your decisions. As such, you’ll make allies and enemies out of many people during your travels through this harsh landscape. Every outcome, situation, and choice has a grave effect on the overarching narrative. Whether it’s through conversation or combat, you must form a choice that’s right for you. This game promises players that death will occur in these titles no matter what route they take. This storytelling approach allows anyone to embark on a journey different from their peers. Like Fire Emblem, there are high stakes when you make terrible decisions. The combat resembles Fire Emblem to a tea, as you’ll be moving your units across a grid to attack nearby foes. Furthermore, the battle animations and music blend well with the game’s Norse-inspired mythos setting. If you’re looking for a Norse-influenced game with Fire Emblem-like elements, check out The Banner Saga.
Tactical Monsters Rumble Arena
Imagine taking Fire Emblem and merging it with freakish monsters, and you’d end up with something like Tactical Monsters Rumble Arena. This game harbors similar gameplay elements with its approach to turn-based and tactical RPG combat. Like Fire Emblem Heroes, you’ll recruit multiple beasts. Each beast features a slew of abilities for you to utilize in battle. You’ll move these characters across a battle grid and initiate an attack whenever your character is in range. As you claim victory, your beasts will level up and become more powerful. This game features a decent PVP battle system and multiple game modes for you to tackle. Unfortunately, the game’s campaign mode doesn’t offer much memorability or decent story arcs. Many prefer the PVP in this game, but often have trouble finding matches because of its low player base. Nevertheless, this is a decent mobile game with above-average graphics and solid gameplay. If you’re in need of a game with more emphasis on monsters, then check this one out.
Lost Frontier
Lost Frontier feels like a western take on the Fire Emblem franchise. This mobile game currently runs at $2.99 on the Google Play Store. For the price, this game offers fun tactical-based gameplay, a cutesy character and over-world design, and a zany storyline. In this game, you’ll take control of cowboys as they traverse this futuristic western setting wreaking steampunk and supernatural influences. Despite being a title that you can get through within a few hours, the game offers a decent narrative for the price. The game’s characters feel well-written and memorable. As for challenges, the game can become a hassle for people new to tactical gameplay. However, if you’re a fan of titles like Advance Wars, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Fire Emblem, you should be able to get through this game with zero issues. If you have a few bucks to spare, Lost Frontier is a worthwhile purchase.
Final Fantasy Tactics
Dragon Quest Tact
Many current RPGs owe a lot to Dragon Quest for establishing the concept and scope of the genre. These games contain marvelous storylines, compelling gameplay, and engaging worlds full of life. Eventually, Dragon Quest would seep its way into different forms regarding spin-offs, merchandise, and television series. Titles like Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy Tactics opened the door for future spin-offs. However, Final Fantasy Tactics retains a morsel of what made the series popular. It contains excellent storytelling and a well-written cast. What binds Fire Emblem Heroes and Final Fantasy tactics together would be their art style and tactical RPG gameplay. Both games force players to move characters across a grid. Once they’re within reach of their enemy they can dish out devastating attacks. After each bout, your characters will level up. The characters in both games have a chibi art style on the battlefield. Fire Emblem Heroes offers more anime-looking aesthetics but doesn’t feature characters in those models all the time. While the original game’s difficult to find in this day and age, you can gain a similar experience with Square’s mobile title Final Fantasy Tactics: WOTL, which goes for $13.99 on the Google Play Store. Whichever route you wish to pursue, expect to walk away from either Tactics title satisfied and entertained. Enter Dragon Quest Tact, a strategy RPG where you’ll collect and battles beloved creatures from the Dragon Quest franchise. From cutesy slimes to formidable dragons, there’s a great variety of monsters to tame and fight in this mobile game. For a mobile game, it features phenomenal battle animations and sound design. Dragon Quest Tact offers easy-to-understand controls and deep tactical elements to entice competitive players. The game features a continuously growing list of creatures for players to collect that won’t require players to spend cash. With its cartoonish art style, deep gameplay, and compelling service, Dragon Quest Tact offers Fire Emblem Heroes players something swell to play.
Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle
Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle is a fun action puzzle mobile game developed by Akatsuki and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. This game is a free-to-play game with a jack-of-all-trades-styled experience. Its gameplay includes countless themes from card collecting to bubble-popping. Like Fire Emblem Heroes, you’ll recruit, summon, and command recognizable characters from the Dragon Ball franchise. From Goku to Jiren, there are many characters worth spending time to obtain. Dokkan Battle’s gameplay is more simplistic than Fire Emblem Heroes. You’ll simply connect Ki spheres in a match-3 type of formula to deal damage to foes. Players can finish enemies off in style via the game’s Dokkan Mode, allowing your character to unleash a devastating finishing move. This game includes several game modes to participate in after you’ve completed the game’s easier challenges. If you’re in need of another exhilarating gacha game, check out Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle.
Phantom of the Kill
Phantom of the Kill feels like a direct homage to Fire Emblem in ways. It’s a tactical RPG where players will move characters across a grid to engage in combat with nearby enemies. It features a similar weapons triangle mechanic to Fire Emblem and offers compelling turn-based battles. The character models and animations aren’t as polished, though. This game adopts a chibi-like art style for its characters when they appear on the grid or when they perform attacks. Phantom of the Kill doesn’t feature any permadeath (permanent death) mechanics either. When your units perish, they lose their equipped items. This title suffers from vast load times, grinding, and a subpar storyline. However, its anime cutscenes may bode well for those that like animation. If you can sit through the game’s grind-heavy gameplay, lackluster plot, and elongated load times, you’re in for a treat with this one.
