What is Chainsaw Man Season 1 about?
Chainsaw Man centers on Denji who’s robbed of a normal teenage life. He’s left with his father’s eye-watering debt and his only companion is his pet. A pet that happens to be a chainsaw devil called Pochita. Denji uses him to slay devils for money. When an act of betrayal by the Yakuza leads to Denji’s brutal death, it sets into motion an unforgettable, bloody adventure. An old contract allows Pochita to merge with the deceased Denji and bestow devil powers onto him, creating a hybrid able to transform body parts into chainsaws, becoming the fearsome Chainsaw Man. With Denji now a significant risk to society, the Public Safety Bureau’s elite devil hunter, Makima, ends up on the hunt. Has Chainsaw Man been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Chainsaw Man has not been renewed for a second season. Given the nature of the show’s content, that could well change given how popular this anime is. Generally MAPPA Studios gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it, gauging fan reaction and then looking at the drop-off rate. Furthermore, manga sales and how much of the manga has been adapted are also taken into consideration. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a final decision is made over the show’s future. So far, Chainsaw Man has had a really good reaction from audiences and critics alike, with most commenting on the excellent story and relatable characters. Given the way this show is set up, there’s definitely potential for a sequel. Rumblings online seem to hint that the second season could introduce us to the Bomb Devil (more on that below!) Given the nature of the ending, we’re going out on a limb and predicting that this will be renewed for a second season. What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given MAPPA have not green-lit a sequel. However, it seems likely that the show will continue the manga’s story from the first volume if it is renewed, introducing us to the Bomb Devil. This would allow the series to adapt the Bomb Girl Arc, followed by the International Assassins’ arc too. As mentioned above, we predict that this will be renewed so we’re hoping it’s just a matter of time before we get confirmation.
