What is House of the Dragon about?
House of the Dragon is the long-awaited prequel to Game of Thrones, taking place 200 years before the War of the Five Kings. The focus here is on the Dance of Dragons, adapted from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, along with the novella The Princess and the Queen. The story depicts the turbulent history of the Targaryens, including plenty of political intrigue, back-stabbings, battles and carnage – but less gratuitous violence and nudity. We have ongoing coverage of House of the Dragon across the site, including episodic recaps for every episode. You can check that out HERE.
Has House of the Dragon been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, House of the Dragon has been renewed officially for season 2. The announcement came about back at the end of August following a highly successful launch and viewing figures increasing every week, which is always a sign of a strong show. In fact, according to this article from Deadline, “House of the Dragon debuted Sunday August 21st to the largest audience for any new original series in HBO history.” This is great news for fans of the show, and House of the Dragon certainly has a lot of history to go through. Expect more of this over time, although how far the history goes, and whether we go all the way to the Mad King and the Kingslayer remains to be seen. In the meantime though, we can definitively confirm that House of the Dragon will be returning.
What we know about season 2 so far:
We can expect many of the same actors and actresses returning, along with a slew of new and intriguing characters too. However, whereas the first season was co-written with George R.R. Martin, the second will see Ryan Condal go it alone as sole showrunner. In this article from Deadline, Francesca Orsi says: Either way, we can probably expect more of the same (hopefully) with deep character writing and a few more time-jumps to boot! In the meantime, we can all look forward to the second season dropping in the near future. Are you excited to see House of the Dragon return for a second season? What do you think of this series?
