But has the show been renewed? Or have we seen the last of Homelander and the vigilante group that stood up to him? Here’s what we know.
What is The Boys about?
The Boys is quite unlike many other superhero shows as most of the superpowered people in this universe are less than heroic, despite the adoration poured on them by the public. They are banded together in a group known as The Seven and are owned by a powerful corporation, Vought International, that capitalizes on the ‘heroes’ adventures for monetary gain. The Seven is led by the sociopathic Homelander (Anthony Starr) and he is the most corrupt member of the squad. Other members include The Deep (Chace Crawford) and A-Train (Jesse Usher) who also have very loose morals. Thankfully, Starlight (Erin Moriarty) is part of the group and she is far more good and honourable than her male colleagues. She, along with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and the rest of ‘The Boys,’ do what they can to combat Homelander and the bad elements of The Seven that are under his control.
Will there be a season 4 of The Boys?
Prepare yourself…The Boys has been renewed for a fourth season! So, if you have enjoyed the often violent antics of Homelander, Billy Butcher, et al, you will be glad to know that the show has not come to an end just yet.
What will happen in The Boys Season 4?
Plot details are thin on the ground at this stage but you can expect the events of Season 3 to roll over into the fourth season. Without giving away too many spoilers, the third season saw Billy Butcher’s team become an official government unit responsible for keeping the superheroes in check. This was a good thing as Homelander became increasingly unstable during the course of the season, although to be honest, he’s never really been that stable, as you will likely know already! This will clue you in to where Season 4 might go but if you want to avoid spoilers, be sure to watch the third season which is now streaming on Prime Video.
Which characters will return for The Boys Season 4?
An official cast list hasn’t been revealed yet but there is a small chance that one of the leads will bow out early due to the death sentence that was placed on him in Season 3. It’s unlikely that he will depart the series, however, but if you have seen the previous season, you will know that he was given an expiry date. We won’t give away any spoilers here as to find out who we’re talking about, you need to see the third season. Not every member of The Seven made it out alive in Season 3 so you shouldn’t expect to see every ‘hero’ return for Season 4. We will tell you that Homelander survived (no surprise there) but as for the rest? Well, you know what you need to do if you want to learn more! Billy Butcher’s vigilante crew made it to the end of the show intact so you can expect to see Hughie, Mother’s Milk, Frenchie, and Kimiko again. But will they survive to the end of Season 4? We’ll just have to wait and see.
When is the release date for The Boys Season 4?
There is no official date yet. A fourth season was announced in June 2022 but it hasn’t started filming yet. Production is expected to begin in August of this year so we could reasonably expect to see Season 4 next year, perhaps around June 2023 in line with the summer release date that was given to Season 3. However, there is the chance that The Boys Season 4 could be released after the spinoff show Gen V, which is due for release in 2023. As such, the fourth season of The Boys could air in early 2024 so as not to crowd out this spinoff. This is all we know for now but we aim to update this page when more information is released.
