What is Under The Queens Umbrella Season 1 about?
Under The Queens Umbrella is the latest weekend K-drama to hit Netflix and it’s certainly shaping up to be a really interesting watch. The story takes place deep in the Joseon Era, and within the palace exists troublemaking princes who cause nothing but headaches for the royal family. In particular for their mother, the Queen Hwa-Ryeong who’s supposed to act with grace and dignity, but for her sons playing up. Understandably, she ends up exasperated and sensitive. Every day of her life is full of trials and challenges but perhaps none are more challenging than simultaneously helping to run a Kingdom and raise two troublesome kids! Will she succeed? Has Under the Queen’s Umbrella been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, tvN and Netflix have not renewed Under the Queen’s Umbrella for season 2. Given the ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up. The ratings began with a pretty decent 7.6% share nationwide but since then, the show has been steadily increasing, with highs of 14% for episode 14! The ratings have been a real surprise and it’s perhaps unsurprising that these later chapters have been full of drama and intrigue. Despite the ratings, it’s extremely rare to find Korean dramas renewed for another season. That has changed in recent years but given the sheer wealth of talent in this that are sure to move onto other projects, we predict that Under the Queen’s Umbrella will not be renewed for a second season. What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Given most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, it’s rare to find these renewed. With the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed. Having said that though, we have seen Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed renewed recently, alongside Alchemy of Souls too. Given how steady the ratings are for this series, could we see this one buck the trend? Right now it seems unlikely. There is always the possibility that the actors return for a follow-up for a sequel or a spin-off featuring the same characters but considering all of this, we believe this will not be renewed.
