The result is something that feels tired and worn out; a film released 15 years too late and one unlikely to be remembered longer than 15 hours....
The Giant Girl Alex Garland is one of the more prolific names in the world of science fiction. From the excellent 28 Days Later to the psychedelically trippy Annihilation, Garland has a knack for writing a tight-knit story with compelling characters and abstract ideas. Turning his attention to the small screen, Devs is a thought provoking, engrossing series that gets off to a pretty good start, although some clunky exposition and some questionable acting hold this back from being a better title....
The Truth Dinner Mate returns this week with another double bill of episodes, presenting some serious obstacles for our duo to try and overcome. With some nice work done to further A-Young and Keanu’s growing affection for one another and more mystery surrounding Jae-Hyeok’s place in all of this, Dinner Mate delivers an enjoyable enough hour of drama. If there’s one blemish here though, it comes from Do-Hee’s reaction to finding out Hae-Kyung’s true identity but we’ll discuss that in more detail at the end....
The Memory Palace Dispatches From Elsewhere returns this week with a slightly different tone, oozing more of an espionage flavour whilst progressing the narrative with a drip-feed of more information about the Game of Life. While the surreal imagery is kept somewhat to a minimum, the series makes up for that with some decent characterisation, this time for Fredwynn who takes centre stage. Episode 4 of Dispatches from Elsewhere takes us back to Fredwynn at the limo, as Octavio narrates about his life and how consumed he is to find out the truth....

Those well versed with Doctor Who may well remember the 3rd Doctor’s fateful clash with the arachnid kind before dying and being reborn as Tom Baker’s manic portrayal of the Time Lord. Skip forward to 2018 and Jodie Whittaker’s latest episode of the rebooted Doctor Who sees her come face to face with the arachnids again. Or, well, at least we know she does, the Doctor seems to be oblivious to this fact through the entire run-time of this week’s formulaic plot....
Trapped Episode 7 of Dom Season 1 begins in the past as Pedro is rushed into hospital after being hit by a car. He’s in a bad way and despite the severity of his injuries, the doctors are concerned given he hasn’t cried. According to them, he has no sensitivity to physical pain, meaning he has difficulty distinguishing those barriers one should never cross. This seems to be a reasoning toward Pedro’s behaviour, and why he’s found it so easy to regress back into his drug-addicted state....
Even Robots Have Feelings Armed with a sharp wit and well written characters, Doom Patrol embraces its craziness, helping it stand out among the glut of superhero content out there. While the first episode serves as little more than an origin story for our quartet of heroes, the manner in which this is executed is partly the reason Doom Patrol works as well as it does. Hot off the success of Titans where Doom Manor and those inside were briefly featured, Doom Patrol begins with a look at the background for most of our characters we’ll be spending the season ahead with....
A Sleepy Thriller Without The Thrills Earth and Blood is the perfect example of how important editing and sound mixing is in a film. While the formulaic script and serviceable story is just enough to push the film toward its climactic, action-packed finale, the lackadaisical pacing, long cuts and bizarre musical choices make Earth and Blood more of a slog to get through than it should be.
