The Gates Of Christmas Land With only a few episodes to go, Nos4a2 returns for an episode that feels like a proverbial deep breath before the final push to stopping Charlie Manx once and for all. We begin the episode with Vic receiving a phone call in the middle of the night from Hayley. Or at least, someone imitating Hayley’s voice. She warns Vic to back off chasing after Manx before the line cuts out abruptly, leaving our protagonist reeling....

Ducourt too asks Varese to keep watch and not let her go from the camp. In a flashback just after the day Ben and Alice met in the former’s car, we see Ducourt have lunch with Alice....

Demons From The Past After last week’s stunning and breathtakingly beautiful episode, Peaky Blinders returns with another cold open, and an episode that sets everything up nicely for the conflict to come. Once again the episode delivers some really slick cinematography, with the tone flitting between unhinged and tense through large periods of the hour. It’s really impressive too and the nods toward past events and recurring past characters, helps give a feeling of consistency....

Physical Season 2 Episode 4 Physical is an interesting dark comedy, set in 1980’s San Diego and following Sheila Rubin as she goes on a journey of self discovery through aerobics. Part of this stems from her husband, who loses his job and decides to run for office. The show is as much a social commentary of what it was like to be a woman in the 80’s as it is a cutting dark comedy, and there are glimmers of series like GLOW in this too....

False Truths Episode 4 of Pieces of Her begins with a protest outside a government building. Nick, the man in charge of this operation, tasks one of his associates with keeping up pretenses as a Professor of Economics. All of this is an elaborate ploy to kill a guy called Martin Queller, which this group intend to do with a bomb. Back in the present, Andy – under the disguise of Sheila Scott – manages to bag her way into prison and meet with Paula....

Phantom Of The Ballet Prodigal Son returns this week with another twisted slice of psychological crime, this time with more answers surrounding the girl in the box mystery and a deliciously dark ballet murder to decipher. All of this while keeping the same characterisation and ideas from before while gearing up for a dramatic quartet of episodes to follow to bow out this first season. Episode 18 of Prodigal Son begins with Bright trying to decipher his Father’s work while finding himself haunted by the ghost of Eve’s sister Sophie....

Like Father, Like Son With the early bouts of characterisation under its belt, Prodigal Son doubles down on its mystery this week as Malcolm goes in search of the missing car while grappling with a new case that hits a little too close to home. For the most part, the episode itself works well, with the details of the case coinciding with the demons in Malcolm’s past, but the rigid structure this, and so many other crime dramas like it, follows, holds this back from being a more memorable title....
