A Polarizing Treasure Hunt Da 5 Bloods is a film that will almost certainly divide audiences, more so than usual when it comes to Spike Lee films. This filmmaker has always had a knack for filling his pictures with important political and cultural messages and for the most part, it works incredibly well and captures the heart and essence of the time period it’s been released in. Lee’s latest film, Da 5 Bloods, makes for a pretty difficult watch at times....

Third Time Most Definitely Not Lucky Its hard to pinpoint when the Despicable Me franchise ran out of steam. Despicable Me 2 had just enough charm to see it over the finish line and the spin-off prequel Minions was unnecessary but still managed to produce enough originality to justify its existence, tying in to the start of the first film. Despicable Me 3 on the other hand, has none of the appeal the previous films in the franchise nor does it have any sort of originality to justify its existence....

Most of Doom Patrol season 2 has felt like a ticking time-bomb. Given the ending of episode 5, I think it’s fair to say that bomb has just exploded in a very messy and dramatic fashion. The episode itself begins with Vic having a bad dream about losing control of his powers with Roni. As he awakens, he finds Cliff lifting the sofa trying to find an old tape. At the same time, Niles interviews Jane and together they decide to draw a new map of the Underground....

The People vs. Purdue Pharma Dopesick has been an absolutely devastating watch and after 7 weeks of this rollercoaster ride, everything comes down to this final chapter of the tale. We begin in 2019 with a big demonstration from protestors, chanting against Richard Sackler and taking to the streets. With 400,000 dead, Big Pharma’s greed has finally come back to bite them. Among those is Diane, who remains determined to see justice dealt for Betsy and so many other boys and girls like her....

Visually Impressive But Lacking An Emotional Anchor Visually, Dunkirk is one of the best films of the year. The impressive cinematography is typified through the use of practical effects and a dizzying array of camera angles that make this World War II film devastatingly realistic. Despite its visual splendour, Dunkirk feels cold and void of raw emotion. Whilst the film rides the wave of tension it suffocates the picture with, a lack of an emotional connection with any of the characters makes Dunkirk more of a passive watch than it should be....

With Sylvie handing over the reigns and declaring Brooklyn is “her problem” now, Julien and Luc give their two-cents about Americanized shows where the hero wins at the end. Heading to the hotel, Emily gets a taste of Brooklyn’s eccentricity first-hand....
