Parallel Fates
Episode 11 of She Would Never Know begins with Hyun-Seung and Song-A kissing out by the camp fire. After, he encourages her to get some sleep in the tent while he does so in his car. After cheekily talking about how cold it’s going to be, Song-A agrees to let him come and sleep with her, where she uses his arm as a pillow. Meanwhile, Hyo-Joo is not happy with Jae-Shin’s attitude at the funeral and continues to reel over her fiancé’s actions. As she heads out to the club, she rings Jae-Shin but only reaches his voicemail, prompting her to shout loudly in the street. Jae-Shin is consumed by what happened to his father and continues to wallow in grief. Inside his bag happens to be stacks of cash and a photo of him and his Father together. Jae-Shin ignores the call from Hyo-Joo and starts wandering around the spots his Father frequented. After, he heads back to the club and finds Hyo-Joo blind drunk in the VIP section. He takes her out and back to his place, where Jae-Woon helps tuck her into bed. The next day, Jae-Shin mopes around and heads back to the restaurant where Min-Sook happens to be. They sit together and he asks about his father passing away. She admits that it’s a relief, given how much of an annoyance he was. Jae-Shin probes further though, asking if she has any regrets. Eventually she loses her patient and tells him not to come back again, especially given she doesn’t even regret abandoning him. Jae-Shin eventually snaps and confronts Hyo-Joo about her attitude. When she shows him a new apartment for them to move into it’s a step too far for him. He brings up the suicide attempt and as they fight, she tells him they should just break up. Jae-Shin hastily agrees that this is a good idea as she’s left shocked. Elsewhere, Ji-Seung’s ex, I-Joon, shows up in Korea again. After a frosty entrance, he says his goodbyes to her as it seems like we’re gearing up for a love triangle. For now though, her siblings head out for lunch where she admits that she’s dating someone. She doesn’t disclose who though, promising to tell them all about it later on. At work, Song-A and Hyun-Seung work together on their product, testing the face cream. However, they’re suddenly informed that Seolyoon is working on the Renew Stick too. This brings Hyun-Seung back to the prickly workers from last episode, where he asks BM Seo to adjust his timetable. The manager refuses though and decides to press ahead with releasing it first. The two opposing departments go to Jae-Woon who suggests they just release it together rather than separately. It’s a bit of a hammer blow but one he begrudgingly agrees to. Song-A offers some words of encouragement for him though, eventually leading to him heading into the meetings with more confidence and working to better the product for everyone. He even suggests giving it away as a freebie for the time being just to drum up support from the public. Jae-Woon supports this idea too. Meanwhile, things are tense at home as Ryu arrives for his scheduled meal with Yeon-Seung. Woo-Hyun is not happy though and he struggles to talk about his feelings and how he and Ryu originally met. It’s obvious that there’s unresolved feelings there, and it’s hinted that Ryu may well have a crush on Woo-Hyun. That last part isn’t confirmed though so take that with a pinch of salt. When Jae-Woon returns to his office, he finds a letter of resignation from Jae-Shin in the wake of the break up. With Jae-Shin gone and no one able to find him, Hyo-Joo returns to work and confronts Song-A, asking where Jae-Shin is.
The Episode Review
She Would Never Know bows out this week’s Monday segment with another episode of drama chock full of episodic issues and lackadaisical sub plots. The plot involving Chef Ryu along with Ji-Seung’s relationship bubbling up with Jae-Woon are both given very little screen time which makes it difficult to really get invested in what’s happening with those guys. The incident involving Jae-Shin and his past feels like it’s been taken from a completely different Korean drama too and it jars quite a lot against the romance between Hyun-Seung and Song-A. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with either of these storylines, it just doesn’t seem to work in the same drama. Some of this can be attributed to the fact Jae-Shin hasn’t really been at work nor has he said two words to Song-A since a few weeks back. Because of this, She Would Never Know delivers an episode that struggles to really stand out against so many other dramas on the roster. It’s not a bad show per-se, but the writing isn’t as strong as it could be.
