Star Trek 4
Star Trek fans have had a lot to enjoy on the small screen over the last couple of years, with the likes of Picard, Star Trek: Discovery, and the recent Strange New Worlds. But when it comes to the big screen, there hasn’t been a cinema release since 2016’s Star Trek: Beyond. So, what’s going on? Will there be a Star Trek 4? And if so, when are we likely to see it?
Will there be a Star Trek 4?
Despite numerous delays and cancelled projects, there will be a fourth Star Trek movie. This was recently confirmed by Bones McCoy himself, or rather Karl Urban, the actor who played him in the previous films. As quoted at TrekMovie.com, Urban said: When talking about getting back together again with the crew of the USS Enterprise, Urban said: So, there we have it. Star Trek 4 will be beaming down onto our screens at some point in the future. Of course, the question you’ll be asking if you’re a long-term fan of the franchise will be this one…
When is Star Trek 4’s release date?
UPDATED INFORMATION: Star Trek 4 was due for release in December 2023 but at the time of writing, the movie has been delayed again. There is no current release date for the movie.
Who will be in Star Trek 4?
We don’t know at this point but apparently talks are in place to bring back all of the main cast members. To refresh your memory, these include Chris Pine as Captain James Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock, Zoe Saldana as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, Karl Urban as Lieutenant Commander Leonard McCoy, John Cho as Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, and Simon Pegg as Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott. Sadly, Anton Yelchin who played Pavel Chekov in the rebooted movies won’t be returning as he passed away in 2016. We don’t yet know if he will be recast or whether his character will be missing from the upcoming movie.
Who will be directing Star Trek 4?
It has been confirmed that Matt Shakman will be directing the next movie. He is mainly known for his TV work, including Wandavision, The Boys, and the uproariously funny It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Star Trek 4 will be his first movie but due to his involvement in the aforementioned TV shows, we’re sure he will deliver something great. UPDATE: Matt Shakman has dropped out of the movie.
What is the plot of Star Trek 4?
It’s unclear at this point. There were plans to bring Chris Hemsworth into the fold as Kirk’s father and that there would be a time travel element to the plot. However, these plans have been scrapped. At the end of the last movie, Spock reignited his romance with Uhura, Kirk declined a promotional opportunity, and the crew ventured forth in a new USS Enterprise after the previous model had been destroyed. As to where their adventures will take them next, we don’t yet know. However, we fully expect them to carry out their usual mission, which is… To explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before!
